In a startling revelation, Tuolumne County, California has been spotlighted for its alarming crime rates. Recent data reveal a dramatic escalation of violent crimes, registering a rate of 25.7, a figure which overtakes the national US average of 22.7.

It’s not only the violence that’s plaguing this California county. The rates of property crime echo a similar, unsettling trend. They clock in at a significant 67.2, almost double the national figure which stands at 35.4.

These troubling statistics underscore an inescapable reality: Tuolumne County is wrestling with higher crime rates—both violent and property—compared to the rest of the nation. As a community grappling with these challenges, it starkly contrasts the national averages, prompting urgent calls for strategies to address the escalating criminal activity.

In 2014, the violent crime average for Tuolumne increased by almost 20% over the figures of 2010.

As a private investigator, I would say that an effective way to protect yourself and your family from the burgeoning crime rates is to know if anybody around you has an active warrant or arrest record to his/her name. But, let me tell you this- you will not be able to circumvent the privacy laws of California and get your hands on third-party crime records through the police or judiciary. However, accessing personal crime history information is really easy, so let us start with that.

Who can I approach for a criminal history report?

The California Department of Justice is the only agency in the state that entertains requests for personal criminal records. Typically, you would need this document for immigration, adoption, licensing, and employment purposes. This is what you need to do to get this report:

  • Download the live scan form available in the REQUEST FOR LIVE SCAN SERVICE PDF.
  • Fill out the form with the required information and do not forget to check the “record review” box at the top of the page.
  • Pick a live scan location for fingerprinting from the list available here.
  • Take a valid ID card along when visiting the live scan center. Fingerprinting fees vary among service providers, and you can call and inquire about the latest fees.
  • Get a money order or make out a check of $25 payable to the Department of Justice. This is the fee for record processing.
  • Once you have your fingerprint card with your name, date of birth, sex, and return mailing address on it, mail it along with the check or money order to the California Department of Justice, Record Review Unit, P.O. Box 903417, Sacramento, CA 94203-4170.
